Feeling Great For Summer Hobbies

We hope you are enjoying the warm weather and all the fun outdoor activities summer has to offer.

Summer brings a lot of fun.  Water skiing, tubing, hiking, running, swimming, camping, gardening and so much more.  If you or your family members find yourself feeling aches and pains from all your fun activities please make sure to contact Balanced Health for a complimentary consultation.  We want to make sure you are feeling good and functioning the best you can.

Summer brings a lot of fun in a short amount of time.  We want you to be able to enjoy all you can before the summer is over.

Many activities that we are not used to doing can put extra tension on the spine when we go in full force to do them each season.

  • Camping: Sleeping in a new bed or air mattress usually isn’t the best for our spine.
  • Gardening: Bending over to pick weeds is no joke.
  • Running/Walking: This spring weather has been great for running and walking outside but can be hard on your body if it’s not used to it.
  • Mowing the Lawn: The constant bouncing and seats on the mowers or push mowers can cause extra tension to the low back.
  • Landscaping/Yard Work: Kneeling or bending are hard on your spine.
  • Weed Trimmer: Bending over and holding the heavy weed trimmer tends to hurt the low back.
  • Farmers – Picking rocks, sitting in a tractor for long hours.
  • Kids are probably still playing their favorite sports or outside activities so along with them come either major or repetitive action athletic injuries.

The theme this month is to put your health first. Every time we wait to see if it goes away there is damage occurring which makes it harder to fix and correct so the same problem doesn’t happen again.

“Change, like healing, takes time.”

~ Veronica Roth

The very popular question that comes into my office is when will I get better? How long will this take?

There are many quick fix options out there to feel better. Usually by the time people reach our office they have tried ALL OF THEM and they still feel like they are exactly where they started or worse.

Neurostructural chiropractic is not a quick fix. It is a long term solution. We work on correcting any primary conditions in the spine and that makes it so you don’t have to deal with the same issues over and over again. It doesn’t take much to get out of pain but to keep it corrected is what our goals are for people to create a healthier self.

The answer to your question is going to be different for everyone. Everyone heals differently, some fast and some slower. The main point is that healing takes time. Be patient. Your body needs time to heal to get better.

There will always be times in our life that hinder our healing process, but as long as we keep moving forward, we will see the progress and how the hard work and time commitment that you give yourself has paid off.

HONEY MUSTARD SALMON

**Most recipes called to cook this in foil but do not do that because we don’t want the aluminum foil to go into our food. I place them right on the grill or my cast iron pan and fry them first and finish in the oven.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup whole grain mustard
  • 5 cloves garlic peeled and minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 1/2 pound of salmon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley
  • Lemon wedges OPTIONAL

INSTRUCTIONS

  • (I PUT OURS ON THE GRILL) I grill the skin side down first and let it get almost fully done so when you flip the salmon it won’t fall apart.
  • In a small saucepan, combine the honey, mustards, butter, garlic and lemon. Whisk until the honey has melted through the butter and the mixture is well combined.
  • After you have cooked salmon fully. I pour the butter/honey mixture over the salmon, and using a pastry brush or spoon, spread evenly over the salmon. Sprinkle with a good amount of salt (about 2 teaspoons) and cracked pepper. Keep layering dressing on top as it might slide off the sides.
  • Bake until cooked through (about 10-12 minutes, depending on the thickness of your fish and your preference of doneness).Garnish with parsley and serve immediately with lemon wedges.

Why should we eat healthy fats??

  • Salmon, avocados, avocado and coconut oil, nuts and seeds, and eggs, are my favorite go too for enjoying healthy fats.

Health Benefits of Eating Healthy Fats:

  • Promoting normal functions of the brain and nervous system
  • Lowering cholesterol levels and supporting heart health
  • Reducing inflammation in the body
